In 2003, an agreement was made between the Franklin County Career and Technology Center and the Franklin County Fire Chief’s Association to form an innovative partnership to create a regional fire training center on the grounds of the FCCTC.  Today, the Public Safety Training Center, located on the southern border of the FCCTC campus, houses a burn building and classrooms to host fire training and emergency medical training for local fire companies.  This facility is one of the only training sites in the area to offer these kinds of services.

The Joint Operating Committee of the Franklin County Career and Technology Center made the decision in the Spring of 2006 to discontinue the school’s Protective Services program for high school aged students.  However, our partnership with the Fire Chief’s Association will likely allow students with an interest in fire services to continue their education in fire science at the Public Safety Training Center by the Spring semester 2007.  This dual enrollment agreement between the Franklin County school districts and a local community college will not only provide students with foundational education in firefighting and emergency medical services but will also allow them to receive college credits while attending the Public Safety Training Center.  Students will be transported to the training site by buses operating between the FCCTC and the home schools.  Fire students will also be provided lunch at the FCCTC while attending classes at the Public Safety Training Center.  For more information on the Franklin County Fire Chief’s Association or the Public Safety Training Center, please go to www.fcfca.com or contact Ken North, Training Coordinator, at (717)729-2302.
