Teens and Greens

Franklin County Career and Technology Center students are growing more than flowers, vegetables and houseplants at their “Teens and Greens” store located adjacent to the school.  The business endeavor, now in its fourth year, is an opportunity for students from the Business and Marketing and Landscaping/Horticulture programs to learn how to run a business.

The outlet on U.S. Route 11 south of Chambersburg is open to the public during selected times in the Fall and Spring as well as during selected seasonal activities.  There is a wide variety of products available for sale including flowers, plants and vegetables grown in the school greenhouse, student-built projects and decorative craft items.  The design of the program is not to compete with other horticultural businesses in the area but to create an educational experience for students to provide real-world activities.

Landscaping and Horticulture students are responsible for planting, growing and watering products as well as taking orders for upcoming sales and create special orders for occasions performed by community-based organizations.  The Marketing students are in charge of daily business operations including, running the cash register, greeting customers and designing promotional items for the store.  Adult supervision is in place at all times.
